Main objectives:
Support to negotiation in the run-up to the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Covering the gap identified by IOC I and real time support at climate negotiations.
The overarching aim of this project is to further strengthen the capacity of IOC member states to play a more active role in the negotiations processes within the UNFCCC system in the run-up to COP21.
Main results:
- Phase 1 – Preparation of the training workshop, design and prepare all training materials;
- Phase 2 – Delivery of the training workshop (Mauritius, 30 September – 1 October 2015) aimed at building the capacity of delegates and negotiators from the IOC secretariat, its member countries, AOSIS and potentially AIMS group to successfully participate to COP21 in Paris;
- Phase 3 – Mentoring and real–time support during the October negotiation round (Bonn, 19-23 October 2015)
Final outcomes:
- Mentoring and real-time support to delegates and civil servants from IOC state members and Zanzibar of Tanzania, focusing on the status and advancement of climate negotiations until the COP21.
- A regional two-day training workshop aimed at building the capacity of delegates and negotiators from the IOC Secretariat, its member countries, as well as AOSIS to successfully participate to COP21 in Paris.
